Gloria Friedgen - Technology for Teachers - University of Maryland
|
For 32 years I have been an educator. About 5 years ago I found www.iKeepBookmarks.com and started to use it for my own teaching. At the time I was teaching 6th and 7th grade science classes. I would make folders and collect bookmarks for the students to use to help direct them to websites that I found that would be pertinent for some of the material covered. This saved lots of time when going to the computer lab when they were assigned an internet project. Often students "surf" a little too much, and when time is at a premium the iKeepBookmarks.com page with targeted folders and links is a great class time saver. Three years ago I left full time teaching when my husband became the head football coach at the University of Maryland, thus the background image and football helmet customization. I now teach at the University of Maryland in the College of Education (my webpage: http://www.wam.umd.edu/~gsf) as well as being the Coordinator of Alumni Affairs and Outreach for the College of Health and Human Performance (http://hhp.umd.edu/alumni). |
I do tech workshops for teachers and this is the first thing that I show them. Invariably they say it is the best thing they have picked up in an inservice to date! I love being able to access my bookmarks from anywhere and so do they.
At UMD I have taught Science Methods for Elementary Education majors and currently teach Technology for Teachers. Again I have collected and sorted bookmarks for my classes. In addition my technology students must start an iKeepBookmarks.com account as well and collect various education-based links. Here's the link to last semester's student webpages - (http://www.wam.umd.edu/~gsf/webpages285.html) scroll down to names and click; you will notice each students has their own bookmarks account.) I have told them how useful it has been to me in my teaching and they, too, find it very useful in my course and for their personal needs. In the Spring I will also teach Technology for Public and Community Health, and they will also be required to open an account filled with folders and links relative to the health field. Thanks for the opportunity to let me tell you how much I enjoy www.iKeepBookmarks.com!! Let me know if I can be of further assistance. Gloria Friedgen |
